Data licensing
What is already free, the two things that are not, and the conditions attached · updated 2026-09-15
Start here: most of what you probably want is free. The raw per-run CSV, every number on every page, the full history, and the methodology are published under CC BY 4.0, for any purpose including commercial use, with attribution. That is 12,717 monitored runs, downloadable, no email required.
We are not going to sell you something we give away, so this page exists only for the two cases the free licence does not cover.
A. Commercial use without attribution
CC BY 4.0 requires you to credit BenchTruth and link the source. If you want our measurements inside a product, a report or a dashboard without carrying our name, that needs a separate licence.
Five conditions come with it, and they are not negotiable. Being cited is how this project exists at all, so a licence to not cite us is the one thing that could damage it, and these are what keep that from happening:
- Not to a platform we measure. Zapier, Make, n8n, Pabbly, Pipedream and their resellers cannot buy this at any price. We do not take money from the subjects of the benchmark.
- No selective quotation. You may omit our name. You may not take the favourable number and drop what travels with it. The licence binds you to SFR v1.0 section 6: the denominator, the confidence interval, the as-of date and the workload go wherever the number goes.
- No claiming you measured it. Attribution-free is not the same as presenting our work as your own measurement.
- We disclose that you hold a licence. Your product need not mention us; our funding disclosure will name you and the amount. Those are not in conflict: you are buying the absence of our branding in your product, not secrecy about the transaction. If that is a dealbreaker, this is not for sale to you.
- Breach ends it, and we say publicly that it ended and why.
B. One-off packages of unpublished detail
The public CSV carries a run reference, platform, workload, fire time, expected versus received, the outcome classification and per-receipt latency. Some things behind it are not published, and those can be packaged:
- Receipt-level timestamps rather than the derived latency
- Poll-level data for the scheduled workload, including every empty poll
- Billing-meter readings taken from each platform's own console, per cycle
- The harness incident log: what broke on our side, when, and what it did to the data
One-off only. A package is prepared once and delivered once. We do not offer a feed, an API, or subscription access, and this is a capacity limit rather than a pricing decision: a feed is something that has to be maintained, and maintenance is a standing commitment this project is deliberately too small to make. If you need continuous access, say so anyway. It is useful for us to know, and the answer today is still no.
What we will not do, at any price
- Run a benchmark for you. No custom testing, no evaluating a platform on request, no pre-arranged methodology. What we measure and how is ours to decide, and that is the entire value.
- Endorse anything. No quotes for your marketing, no logo on your page, no "validated by" badge.
- Change, delay or withhold a result. Not for a licensee, not for a sponsor, not for a platform. Rankings follow the measurements only.
- Sell the mailing list, share it, or let anyone else mail it.
Asking
Email data@benchtruth.com with which of the two you mean, what you want to do with it, and roughly what scale. Useful to include: whether you are a platform we measure (see condition 1), and whether the attribution requirement is the actual blocker or just easier to avoid.
If it turns out the free licence already covers what you need, we will tell you that, and there is nothing to pay. That happens more often than not.
